Blackwater Falls

Witness panoramic views of the half-mile wide canyon, one of West Virginia's most photographed sites. Multiple observation points along the trail lead up to the falls.

Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Enjoy 31 miles of hiking, hunting, and fishing opportunities year-round in the refuge's 16,225 acres of protected land. Watch educational exhibits, films, and displays at the visitor center.

Dolly Sods Wilderness Area

Pack a picnic and head to this 10,215-acre property on the Allegheny Plateau, featuring unique plant life, scenic overlooks, hiking trails, and picnic and camping areas. The area is accessible year-round, but visitors should use caution as storms can develop rapidly.

Seneca Caverns

Choose between the lit, mile-long Seneca Cavern tour, or the Stratosphere Balloon Cavern with no electricity and more adventurous paths. Both tours are guided and also offer family activities such as gemstone mining, miniature golf, restaurants, and picnic areas. Group rates available for 10 or more guests.

Seneca Rocks

Climb your way to the top of this 900-foot-tall formation and witness sweeping views of the valley below. Or, if climbing isn't your thing, hike the steep 1.3-mile trail up the mountain. A visitor's center is located at the base.

Smoke Hole Caverns

See spectacular stalactites, stalagmites, and other natural formations that have been millions of years in the making. Step into the West Virginia underground and be amazed by the dazzling, multi-colored scenery that awaits! Tours are offered throughout the year.

Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad

Hop on the train and take any of its four scenic routes into the heart of West Virginia and breathtaking scenery. Then, catch a show at the adjacent American Mountain Theater.

Cass Scenic Railroad

Ride the old logging trains, pulled by Shay Engines, that have been restored as a living museum of railroading and lumbering. The train operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, as well as fall foliage weekends in October.

The Gandy Dancer Dinner Theater

Take the whole family to dinner and then enjoy the show! Meals are included in ticket prices and served before the performance.

National Radio Astronomy Observatory

Check out the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope, the largest fully-steerable dish in the world. Take a guided tour through the observatory and learn something new at the hands-on science center.

Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad

Catch a ride—and an eagle sighting—on this diesel-powered, open-window coach train. The 3.5-hour narrated excursion takes you through beautiful scenery in the South Branch of the Potomac River.

Mountain Trail Rides

Raft down West Virginia's whitewater rapids in the mighty Cheat River. The rapids give you an adrenaline rush in the spring, and then turn to family-friendly rafting throughout the summer.
